Anti-aging program: when to start

As many people age, they may have vague ideas about wanting to fight the aging process.

They may be interested in fighting wrinkles, concealing gray hair, and maintaining a youthful appearance for as long as possible.

So you know you are interested in anti-aging, but at what age do you start pursuing it? How far do you go, and where do you stop?

The key thing to remember is that each individual needs to make the best decision for him or her.

Well, it depends

Yep, the non-answer that is really the right answer. Your choice to begin anti-aging activities will vary with whatever sign of aging is bothering you first.

For example, a woman in her early forties may decide to begin coloring her hair as her youngest child begins school; it may not bother her much, but she may be conscious of her age on her child's behalf, not wanting him to feel like his mom is the oldest in the group.

A man may pursue coloring his hair as an anti-aging measure after the birth of his first grandchild. While he may be thrilled, he may not be ready to be "grandpa" in his early fifties.

A gradual process

For many people, the anti-aging process is a gradual one. A person rarely wakes up one day and begins to color her hair, add herbal supplements and anti-aging skincare to her routine, and explore plastic surgery options all at once.

People tend to "dip a toe in the water" so to speak; they'll often start with hair dye or perhaps vitamin supplements.

As people become more comfortable with adopting anti-aging habits and the signs of aging become more noticeable as the years tick by, the rate of acceptance of anti-aging strategies will accelerate.

Stay true to yourself

The thing to remember about starting a personal anti-aging program is that you need to stay true to yourself. Don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing. Other people have different preferences and tolerances for age. It's not a contest. You have to live with the decisions you make, both psychologically and financially.

You'll only stress yourself out if you try and keep up with others or go farther than you initially planned to in your anti-aging efforts. While plastic surgery is good for your neighbor, perhaps you're ready for hair color only.

Alternatively, you may be feeling good about your anti-aging herbal supplements while others may go more for a radical change in diet and exercise. Getting older is such a personal thing. For many people, they may pass into their forties, fifties, or sixties without worrying about aging.

But as the years pass on, the creeping signs of age become more and more noticeable, prompting them to take on anti-aging measures, whether it's gradually or wholeheartedly.

The decision may be difficult for some, much easier for others. The thing to remember is that there is such a variety of experiences, there is no right answer about when to begin an anti-aging regime. It'd different for everyone.
